Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park

During our Holiday 2022 vacations we spent some days in Hawai’i visiting the Big Island and Maui. While being in the Big Island, we went to Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park which, as presented in its website, protects some of the most unique geological, biological, and cherished cultural landscapes in the world. Extending from sea level to 13,680 feet, the park encompasses the summits of two of the world’s most active volcanoes: Kilauea and Mauna Loa. The National Park is also a designated International Biosphere Reserve and UNESCO World Heritage Site.

We did several hikes while being there, which we really enjoyed: the Sulphur Banks (Ha’akulumanalu); the Steam Vents; the Kiluaea Iki Overlook and all the way down to that crater and backwards; Nahuku, which is a lava tube; the Kealakomo; the Pu’uloa Petroglyphs; and the Holei Sea Arch. We did some of them on different stops, while also driving through the Crater Rim and Chain of Craters Drive Tours. We enjoyed several great views and nature, which are unique to the Hawai’i islands.

The National Park is an impressive place where you can not only enjoy the nature and different landscapes that it presents, but also learn about the millennial history. Some photos and highlights are presented below:
