Museum of Cosmonautics – VDNH Park

Moscow’s Cosmonautics Museum is aimed to showcase the important role that Russia played in the space race during the 20th century. The museum is located underneath a 350-foot tall titanium obelisk known as the Monument to the Conquerors of Space, built in 1964 to celebrate the launch of Sputnik.

We learned while visiting it that the museum pays special tribute to Yuri Gagarin, the Russian national hero who was the first person to orbit the earth. Amongst the fascinating space-related exhibitions, we were attracted by the space capsule in which the famous astronaut made his great journey and which is in exhibition there.

The museum tour takes visitors on an interesting journey, allowing them to discover numerous original pieces that were used in space travel throughout history, including the first Sputnik (artificial satellite), the first Soviet rocket engine, and the moon rover Lunokhod.

From an exhibition on the evolution of space suits from different periods to space-themed propaganda posters, visitors get captivating insights into the incredible importance placed on the space race during the Soviet era.

These are some photos of the items and views that captured my attention most whole visiting it:
